A Sad, Sad Day

Our poor Edward, the German Shepard who came to us after a life of starvation and abuse, was hit by a car a little less than a month ago. Today he went to the veterinarian and underwent an extensive and expensive procedure that included the chiseling of the ball on his femur (leg bone). Not only did the vet. accidentally break another bone in his leg, but also had to wire it back into place, resulting in a longer healing period.
My little sister, Ava, is Edward's biggest fan. He sleeps on her floor every night to keep the boogie man and under-the-bed monsters away. Tonight has been a tragic event in the Johnson household. It is currently 9:46pm and Ava is continuing to wheap about how much she needs, misses and loves our dog.
"He will never come back," Ava said.
"Yes he is, he will be back in a few days," mom said with concern in her voice.
"No, I mean never but I know in a few days," Ava replies with certainty.
They continue to casually converse on the topic and eventually Ava decided she could use her charm to cajole her way into catching "a few minutes" of TV time before bed.

I knew those brown eyes would get her places.
